Dropping off my Great Granparents to the Airport

Dropping off my Great Grandparents to the Airport

Early in the morning on the 8th of December, my mum, brother and I had to drop off my Great Grandparents to the airport. They were going on a trip to Fiji and they’re also celebrating Christmas there.

When we were at the airport we had Mcdonalds and I was babysitting all my cousins because we knew that they would go and run around everywhere, so me and my aunty would take care of them. When they were running around, one of my little cousins were crying, there two sisters were fighting, and the others were jumping and hurting other people on the playground.

When it was time to see my great grandparents go, we saw them and my great grandpa was getting angry at my great grandma. When we were saying bye to them, they were going the wrong way because they’re really old. So my mum rang them and told them that they were going the wrong way.

When we were leaving the Airport we went straight to school.

Te Tuhi Trip

Te Tuhi Trip
On 2nd of December class 2 went to Pakuranga Te Tuhi. We went there and we drawed a tapa. We learnt what other islands call tapa, Fijians call it “ Masi”, Tongans call it “ Ngatu” and Samoans call it “ Siapo”. When we were all settled down on our tables Jeremy showed us  2 tapas from Different Islands. Fiji and Samoa, Jeremy showed us the difference of the tapas how they feel and how they are laid out.

When we were all finished touching the tapas. Jeremy told us that we have to pick up a brown pastel and smudge it on the 4 squares and we have to go up and down. then when we were finished we had to cover it with Brown dye. When we were finished we had to give it to Jeremy to dry in the steps so the other class that comes can get it. When we were finished we had to get the tapas near the board it was already ready for us.

When we got the brown papers with 4 squares we had to draw in the 4 squares we had to draw one symbol in each. In the top left we had to draw one symbol that represents my family. The next one we had to get one symbol of my culture. The other one we had to put one representative symbol of our house. After we drawed our symbols we had to color 2 of the boxes in brown pastels, in the other 2 boxes we had to color it with brown or black ink.

After we finished we had to leave it to dry on the tables and we had to go outside and look at the paintings that other Artist did. After the whole tour we went back to the room and got our tapas that we finished. When we had to go Sela had to say a speech and say thank you.

My Week End

In the Weekends
In the Weekends my family and I were preparing a BBQ so our family came over so we can all watch the fight on Saturday. All my Aunts, Uncles, Nana’s and Cousins came to watch the fight called Super 8.

When we were at my house, I was on my mums Laptop waiting for everyone to come to my house. When my dad was cleaning the BBQ he was listening to music on a really loud speaker, When my dad was playing freaks on the speaker I had to go down and say “ You have to Put the volume down because the baby next door is sleeping.

When My cousins came it was really loud. When we were waiting for the other member of the family, I went to my peaceful room, But suddenly it wasn't Peaceful anymore when that door opened the noise came into the room and it was really loud, So I got my speakers and I turned up really loud and I told them that they can't be any louder than this or else they have to go outside of my room, Then they were being louder than the speaker so I told them all to get out of my room, Then when they got out of my room they went to the Kitchen and told my mum and all I heard was “ LEILA MAKE SURE THE KIDS ARE HAVING FUN OKAY”.

When we were in my room they came to me and asked me what can they do so we decided to play X-factor. When we were playing X-factor everyone was singing it was really cool. Me and my aunt were the judges of them singing. When someone always finished singing we always have to make a really good compliment about their singing and we had to get a number out of 10. After we played X factor me and my aunt were doing Video Stars.

I had a really great time on Saturday. I love Hanging out with My family. They can be annoying sometimes but there still my family even though I sometimes get angry at them.

Trip to the Auckland Museum

Trip to the Auckland Museum
On Tuesday the 28th of October Year 7’s went to the Auckland Museum. When we went to the Auckland Museum when we entered the first thing we saw was the 2 Maori leaders about to greet the international visitors.

When we were all settled  in the museum, this lady talked to us about the rules. After the lady went we had to go to the Kai room and eat our morning tea. After that we had to go in our groups then we had to go into the gallerie’s. The First Gallerie that we went into we were looking at  olden day cloths and what they were wearing and what kind of furniture they had.

The Second Gallery was The Maori Gallery The first thing you see when you step into the Maori Gallery you can see a big Waka and heap’s of Maori weapons that they use in the war. Out task was to sketch a pattern and we had to sketch a Harakeke made out of flax. At the entry of the Maori gallery we went into a Whare and there was a construction site in the middle. Some of the kids were sketching some of the patterns and some of them were sketching out side. When my group entered

The Gallery that we went after the Maori gallery. My group went to the pacific Gallery. when we went into the pacific gallery we could see Weapons, tapas, traditional cloths and we saw the islands culture and what kind of dance they do. In the pacific gallery there would be more than one traditional mats. In the Pacific Gallery the Islands shown on the floor there were Tonga, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands and Papua new Guinea and many more.

After all the gallery’s that we had went into the sea life and looked at sharks, dolphins and fishes and more. Then we took the photos of students with sharks fishes and dolphins. Then when we went into the Volcano Part of the Museum then when we looked at what happens after a volcano is done erupting. When we were looking around we saw this sculpture, The sculpture that we were looking at a person filled in ashes praying before he was going to die.

After we looked around we went into this house that had a movie in it, when we went in there we had to sit down anywhere it looked like a real house but when we looked at the front of us we saw a window and the view of Mission bay. Then when we were all settled in, the new turned on then the massive explosion started and the room shock and it was really loud and one of the girls in my group fell because she was really scared.

When we were finished from visiting the other galleries we had to go back to have our lunch. While we were still arriving to the entrance of the museum to have lunch we went past the Pacific Gallery, The Maori Gallery and The olden day stuff. After our lunch we had to go out side of the museum and do a task that Mrs Lagitupu gave us. Mrs Lagitupu gave us a piece of paper which had instructions on it cause every group had an Ipad and a Iphone.

On the piece of paper it had a task to take photos of different stuff. On the piece of paper it said to take five close up photos of a flower, five photos of an interesting tree from five different angles, four photos of a bird close up, five photos of interesting photos of water and Many more cool task.

The Auckland Museum is very inspiring. We learnt how to do art and Patterns how we do the outlines and the patterns in side of the tapas.

Why do you need to wash your hands? Explanation

Why do you need to wash your hands?

Keeping your hands clean is very important. If you don’t wash your hands you can get sick, get someone else sick and it might cause a diseases. Washing your hands is very important because when you high five someone you touch their hands and they have the germs.

When you don’t wash your hands and you go for dinner, lunch or breakfast you might touch the food with your hands and you might get the bacteria in your mouth and get sick. If you play outside and touch anything that's dirty and after that you don’t wash you hands after that you might put your hands on the knobs of the door and other people touch and they have the bacteria.

Washing your hands are really Important when you put your hands in your mouth you might get the bacteria and dirt in your hand in your mouth. After using the bathroom you should always wash your hands because after you use the bathroom and you leave and you touch the door knob it spread around the door knob and everyone will touch it and the bacteria will go on their hands.

When you see a dog or cat or any animal you must wash your hands after you pat them. After  you pat an animal you must wash your hands after that because you don’t know if the pet had a shower or you don’t even know where the pet had been. You can still pat Pets but make sure you wash your hands after petting the pet.

Washing your hands can stop the germs from spreading. Thinking about what you have touched like dirt, mud, grass, bugs, pets or door knobs. When you blow your nose on a tissue. you need to wash your hands.

Why is it Important to have school/class rules?

Why is it Important to have school/class rules?

If schools did not have any rules it will be dangerous because if there were no rules students will misbehave and leave school and do whatever they want to.

When schools and classes don’t have any rules the students will disrespect the teachers and other students. If the students behave really badly and they are disrespectful to the teachers, the teachers might get really angry at them and discipline them.

Rules should always be in schools and classes or else students would be dodgy, tag on the walls, smoke, steal and they might bully one another. Rules are really important because they might swear and it might be dangerous because students will be scared to come out of class and come to school.

Term 4 Immersion Assembly

Immersion Assembly

On Monday 13th of October, Pt England had an Immersion assembly. Whenever we go back to school we always go to Immersion assembly in the hall at the start of the term. We learn about what were going to be focused on the whole term.

Team 1 did an item when they were playing on the beach and they were surfing and playing surfing music, then they were playing on the sand with shovels and buckets. When they were finished then Mrs George said “we are going down to the river and looking at the environment”.

Team 2 teachers showed us a movie about primary colours. The primary colours are red, blue and yellow. They taught us about what colour makes another colour.

Next Mrs Barks from Team 3 was introducing the other teachers like they were other famous artist on the world. One of the first teachers were pretending to be Leonardo Da Vinci and showing everyone what their most famous portrait ever. Leonardo’s Painting was the famous Mona Lisa. Another famous artist was another teacher pretending to be Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol was famous of making his own portrait of a Tomato Soup. The other teacher was pretending to be another artist his special talent was when he falls asleep and he gets his ideas from his dreams. When he wakes up he gets a piece of canvas and a paint brush and paints what was in his dream.

Team 4 did an item when they did a competition of who is the best artist. The teachers pretended to be famous artists in the world. Mrs Lavakula pretended to be Fatu Feu’u and having the most famous Polynesian art. Mr Goodwin (Claude Monet) was famous for his pointillism art. He would just get his finger and paint what ever he sees. Mrs Jacobsen was pretending to be Vincent Van Gogh. Vincent Van Gogh painted his famous art called the Starry Night.
Starry Night was painted in 1889. Mr Somerville pretended to be a French artist and trying to have a French accent but actually had a Russian accent.
Finally Team 5 did a really awesome item. They had a piece of paper and it was hanging from the board and they had to paint important people at Pt England school. When they were painting the portraits there was a video playing. When they were finished they turned it around it appeared to be Mr Jacobsen, Mrs Jarman and Mr Burt. Then everyone was gasping and clapping.
Coming back to school was amazing for me because I get to focus on what I enjoy to do. Team 4 is gonna be really exciting because its a new term and were focusing on Art Attack.

cross country

BAM! Went Mr Burts Clapper to go.

On Thursday the 11th, our whole school did cross country at school. It was a  good day to run because it was really sunny and bright. When we were sitting down we had to sit down in our house colours Takitimu (Yellow), Tainui (Blue),
Te Arawa (Red) and  Matatua (Green). I’m In Takitimu ( Yellow).

We had to run in our year levels. At the start of the race the year 7 girls had to line up on the starting line on the field. We all sprinted to the corner,  all of us were trying our best and some were jogging. When we were walking up the field, all of the girls had butterflies in their stomachs.

When it was the second lap of the cross country mostly everyone was were walking. everyone was running, Jogging, sprinting and walking. When we running we had to past every teacher that were on the field. The teachers were there so they can direct us where to go.

Mrs Va'afusuaga only takes the top 3 to Inter-Zone. After the run, the whole school was tired and sweaty. everyone was really thirsty and hot. When the runners got their water they didn't drink it, They splashed it on their faces so they can be warm. When we were all sitting down Mr Burt said a Pray so we can go. Mrs Va’afusuaga told all of the house captains to do the house chant.

At the end of the day every one was really tired. I was really proud of myself when I came 6th. I was really disappointed when there are only 3 people allowed to go to the Inter zone races.

Ban Plastic bags Letter to John Key

To: Prime Minister John Key

Dear Mr Key,

I am writing this letter to tell you that plastic bags should be banned. I think that plastic bags should be banned because when you litter it might go into the sea. When you put plastic bags in the sea it will break up into tiny pieces and make pollution. When the plastic goes out to sea, the sea creatures think it’s food so they eat it and die from it.

I think that plastic bags should be banned because when you throw the plastic bags away, they might blow away and it might go everywhere like into the sea, river or land. No one bothers to pick up rubbish because they don’t think about putting the rubbish inside the rubbish bin. People don’t think about it going into the sea.

The plastic bags that we use can fly away because it is so light that  it can blow away. Instead of using plastic bags we can use paper bags and cloth bags. It’s good if we should use other bags instead of plastic bags.

Plastic bags can be dangerous because when a kid doesn’t know what a plastic bag is they might play around with it and put it on there head and they can’t take it off they might suffocate and die. Did you know that plastic bags are affecting every sea creature in the sea because you are putting plastic bags and other dirty stuff inside the sea.?

Shopping malls shouldn’t sell plastic bag so they can put in the food in the plastic bags the shop keepers should use something else. Whenever we catch the fishes and we open them up we find heaps of rubbish. We shouldn’t put rubbish in the sea anymore because they can kill other creatures. STOP LITTERING now! We should start saving mother nature.

Yours sincerely
Leila

Argument about Why should children Exercise

Why Should Children Exercise
Children should exercise so they can grow up and be healthy. Exercise is very important, when we exercise we should eat the right food and always drink water. When we grow up we should always exercise because it is very important to take care of your body.

Exercise is really important for children. If Children want to be Strong and have really healthy bones, that's why they should exercise and be healthy. When Children exercise they might lose some weight and be more lighter than they were before.

If the kids are really stressed out they should get out more and they should exercise while they’re outside like run around. Children should get out more and not spend time on their technology and they should not stay inside the whole day and watching TV.

Exercising is really really good for your health. Exercising is not only good for your health, it is good for your lungs, heart, kidneys etc. When they  want to go out they feel less stressed and more carmed.

Explanation writing

Leila Term 3 writing sample

Taking care of your mind and your body is very important because what you put in your mouth it stays until it comes out. The mind is very important because it helps you think.

When you take drugs it is very important that you don’t take it because your body might be very sensitive. When you take the drugs your body might feel a little bit drowsy and it won’t work any more and you might die.

The mind is very Important of your body because it helps you think. When you take the drugs it will go down to your stomach and then it mixes with the other food that you have ate, It will mix then it will go into your blood. When it has finished mixing in with your blood it will go up to your brain and it will stop you from thinking and when you continue drinking you wouldn't know what’s happening, You just carry on and when you tired you still carry on.

Taking care of my body means, eating the right food and drinking lots of water. When we are eating the wrong food we are not taking care of our body and our mind. Taking care of my body is excersice

Your body is very important because that’s what’s holding you to still be alive. Your body and our mind is very important and we should take care for our body everyday.

Life Education Caravan

Life Education
At Life Education we learnt about Alcohol and Drugs. Lynn was telling us about alcohol and what it can do to your brain and body. Drugs and alcohol can create brain damage and affect short term memories.

She was telling us that we shouldn't take alcohol from strangers on the streets. She was telling us that we shouldn't be drinking alcohol even if we see our friends drink it, When we see our friend’s drink alcohol we shouldn't be drinking it just because we want to be cool and be like them so they can like you.

Lynn told us that if we take alcohol and drugs we might be addicted to it and drink heaps. When we drink alcohol, the alcohol might stay in our blood stream. When the alcohol goes down to your liver, then it goes down it will break down. Then you will feel like you only want to take one standard drink per hour, than when the alcohol goes up to your brain. If it goes up to your brain too much alcohol might damage your brain and you might DIE.

At the life caravan we learnt about what happens if you take alcohol and drugs. You can have a: Concussion, permanent brain damage, DEATH, anger, fight’s, They will act emotional, they will have double vision, slower response, memory loss and overdose. We all watched a short video clip about other people that had problems when they were young because they took drugs and alcohol and they had a really hard life when they were tennagers.

When we were at the Life Caravan we were learning about what kind of drugs, alcohol and kind of plants. She was telling us that we shouldn't drink or eat stuff like: Marijuana, Cocaine, Party Pills, Smoking and Weed.

At the Life caravan I Learnt heaps of stuff about alcohol. I learnt that we should never take drugs when we see our friends have some we shouldn't follow them just because you want to be cool.

Lest We Forget

On Monday the 4th of August the whole school had to go to the hall. We had to go there because it was the 100th year when the NZ army went to war. Today we had to sit in silence while we raised the flag.

At assembly Mr Burt was talking about what the NZ army did for us to save us. Mr Burt told us that his great grandpa and Mrs Flavelle’s great grandpa went to World War 1.

It was a really sad for us to watch it because heep’s of people died in the army. We all have to celebrate so we can remember the why they did that for us.

Future Aspiratins

Future Aspirations
On Wednesday 2nd of July at 9:30 a special group came to our school. They were very important. We had to welcome them inside our street with a Waiata and we sang “ Mihi Mai Ra”. They were talking about what we can do in our future and there journey of life, and how they got into their jobs that they do now.The people that came to our school was: Andrew Patterson, Jason Sharma, Constable Faireka and Arizona Leger. Andrew Patterson Is a radio DJ, Jason Sharma is and Half Samoan half Indian and the job he does is being a Maths teacher at Tamaki College. Constable Faireka is a Cook Islander and the job he does now is a Police officer and I’d like to be one. Arizona Leger use to go to Hamilton Girls and was a head girl then she moved houses and moved to another school so she went to EGGS (EPSOM GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL).

When they came up to speak to us they had to write a speech about what they did in their life and how they got their jobs. The first speech was Andrew Patterson talked about his job and what time he wakes up and what he does at his work he does a radio DJ, He wakes up at 4:00 because when they start, they start at 6:00. The second speech was Jason Sharma his speech was about how he loves maths and how he wanted to make his parents proud for being a teacher for school so he did he made his parents proud for being a teacher at Tamaki College.

Then there was the Third speech the third speech was the Police officer he was speaking about not to follow your friend and that his uncle inspired him to be a police officer he likes his job for being in the police force because he likes to help the community. The last speech was Arizona Leger her speech was about how she got head girls in both of the schools that she went to. My favourite speech was Arizona's speech cause she had heeps of
enthusiasm and cause at the end she told us some tips that we could use in our life.

Tahi: Do your Mahi (Work).
Rua: Today you are you, That is truer that true there is no one who is you'er than you.
Four: Beat the door.
Five: Strive to stay alive.
